There was a lot of experience.

Since the late nineties (one thousand eight hundred), various people have actively experimented with gliders and all this went on to the press of that time.

The Wrights themselves also trained on a glider for several years (made on the principle of a box kite)

By the end of 1903 and they just put the engine on the glider and flew.

They landed in the same way as they landed on the glider all this time - "on the belly"

The first plane that the Wright brothers raised into the sky (or rather one of them) flew just a few meters above the ground, at a low speed, so there were no problems with its landing.
