Censorship is needed when there is no culture (not in the sense of folklore, but in the sense of the ability to use information correctly and behave in society). Based on this, it turns out that if there is no culture, then censorship is needed, and if there is no censorship, then culture is needed. Culture is undoubtedly much more useful than censorship, but at the same time censorship is still better than the absence of both it and culture.

But then only if we are talking about competent, sane pro-social censorship. If we are talking about censorship as a means of manipulation for mercenary purposes, then such censorship is needed to exclude culture, and like any other means of manipulation, it will only be useful to the manipulator, and then if it is competent.

Apart from TV, nothing comes to mind. Do not show an event that could resonate. And now, people learn about this event from the Internet. Was it useful? For a limited circle of people, here's a little bit and not for long. The harm for the same people is a decrease in trust in the TV box.
