I'm not a pessimist, but I don't understand which means better. If we better understand the number of things that a person can buy with his salary, then of course, life is getting better and better. True, things are getting smaller and smaller. If we understand better by less work and more rest, then too, everything goes in the direction of reducing the monthly amount of time worked. So Medvedev recently proposed to transfer everyone to a 4-day working week. But if we better understand the level of happiness in our souls, then I think it hardly depends on the level of technological development of mankind.

With the development of technology, people are becoming more and more free.
And vice versa, a person without technology is a robot based only on its genetic program (two arms, two legs, appendix), performing exclusively functions inherent in it - to dig out a root, to climb onto a female.

With the development of technology, people:
- get the right to their space and loneliness
- get the right to live not only in one single real MMO-life (which, maybe, not everyone can play , and not everyone is interested). but also in dozens of other virtual worlds, according to their desires and talents.
- can choose friends and partners not only from their tribe or village, but from all over the world, as well as travel.
- less dependent on their body. Diseases are being treated, prostheses are being developed, etc.
- the level of informational content allows a person to choose for himself which propaganda to adhere to and which to believe.

The list can be long, but the essence is the same. And no, it's not about happiness or pleasure, because it has little to do with freedom, I'm sure the percentage of happy and contented prehistoric homosapiens was about the same as that of today's people. Or the percentage of happy marriages - it does not matter if they are free, or concluded by their parents.

It's about dignity. There is a huge difference between two examples: when a person is thrown in the face of the only possible chocolate bar to eat, it does not matter whether he wants it or not; and when a person personally chooses this chocolate bar from the whole confectionery department. I believe that this is what makes a person a person, makes him a subject, makes him a creator.

In French novels, idiot writers often liked to make fun of aristocrats and monarchs, a caustic scene is preserved in memory where aristocratic monsters are moved that their baby said the first word - "I want." In their propaganda, people missed that this is the main first human word.
