The keyword is "small". A product can be great, but if it has insufficient sales, then the costs of developing and maintaining the product will not pay off, and it is better to close it down as unprofitable as soon as possible.

This is one of the sad consequences of the market. A good product requires more development costs, and, accordingly, has a greater risk of not paying off in sales, especially if competitors are faster. Therefore, companies often move not a great and long-term development, but a fast / mass product.

Because Microsoft realized that they tried to jump on the bandwagon of the departing train when the train had already left for a long time. The project turned out to be a failure, it was not possible to penetrate the long and stable market of mobile platforms, let alone catch up with Android and iOS.
