This is not the first time Facebook has attempted to present itself as a company of good guys who bring equality and opportunity to the whole world.

The noisiest previous Internet.org project aimed to connect every inhabitant of the Earth to the Internet. Facebook has entered into agreements with operators and manufacturers so that residents of poor countries get phones that have access to at least a few services. Of course, Facebook was one of these services.

This project has received a lot of critical reviews. You cannot replace the entire Internet with multiple services. Here's a comparison: if a person suffers from thirst, and you give him a Sprite, he will not be able to cook soup on it.

It cannot be said that this is exclusively a business story. Mark Zuckerberg has a serious idea that connectivity is important, and one identity on social media is what allows people to have a meaningful presence in the online environment. But in reality, these utopias come to the conclusion that the privacy of users is threatened without their knowledge, and the excess of social connections turns into a desire to get rid of the information overload that they bring.

We can now see that Facebook pays slightly less attention to poor countries and is concerned about fake news and information literacy. This is not bad, as is the case with the proliferation of phones, where there are several services, and not the whole Internet. After all, we can still use the application in a different way than it is intended by its developers (by the way, activists in countries where Internet.org operated did so).

Therefore, in general, Facebook with these schools performs a business task, and at the same time - political (after scandals with Russian hackers and fake news, the company's reputation in a difficult situation). But it is worth considering that there are so many digital literacy centers in the world, they are quite different and actually teach differently. Usually the organizers of these centers solve their problems in business or offer an ideology. And that's okay, the main thing is to understand what's going on.

Facebook COO Sherrill Sandberg said:
The European Union is interested in improving the digital skills of the population. This will help countries fight unemployment and build their own digital companies. The new centers will teach, in particular, media literacy and online security. Particular attention is planned to be paid to the elderly, youth and refugees. “People are worried that the digital revolution will leave them behind. We want to convince them that we are investing in digital skills so that people have the skills that will enable them to integrate into the digital economy.
Facebook will open three training centers in Spain, Poland and Italy by 2020 to teach people “digital skills ". By 2020, about 1 million people should be trained in the centers.
