Technology is evolving, and thinking is evolving. Both individuals and society as a whole. You can simply look at the level of technology 100 years ago without any problems, but to find out the level of thinking 100 years ago you need to spend a lot of time and effort. Well, or be born 120 years ago back :) And in order to notice shifts in social thinking, you need to drop ideology. In particular, the idea that hierarchy is something bad or primitive.
And at what level should thinking exist if it is (as I suppose) about the majority? The majority should remain at the level of average ignorance, and not think about serious things. And what do you mean by primitive level ? And what is not primitive? And most importantly: to make such a conclusion, you need to reach the "non-primitive level of thinking", otherwise it is strange to give such a thought.
