Right now I am watching one of the series about the future, in which people have found a way to immortality, to virtual reality, and you know what? They still need to leave the house.
What is a human being from the point of view of philosophy? The brain with attached sense organs, manipulators - a shell in the form of our body. The brain is an organ as compact as nature allows it. It contains the mind, exactly what is considered the human "I". And what is "I"? Personality formed by experience. Life is development. And in order to develop, constant replenishment of fresh experience is required.
This is why we leave the house. Not to go somewhere - to shop or to work. And for experience. As my school physics teacher used to say: " we all go back to bed in the evening, which means that the vector of our movement for the day is zero. " Nice metaphor, isn't it? We leave the house so that the meaning of our existence is not equal to zero.
But we will lead the vector of development into the future, where a person at least decided to explore space, other planets, inhabited worlds. A person will need to package their minds into something hyper-compact in order to send it across the universe. To a conditional file on a conditional flash drive. And nevertheless, there, on another planet, in order to get a different from the terrestrial experience, he will also need senses, manipulators, a body. Man will need a shell. Without it, there will be no new experience.
Leaving home means enjoying the privilege of being human: to feel, be aware, cognize, create. The experience of intelligent existence, as we at the moment can say, is available only to one species - us. Of course, it will be pleasant and even logically expected to meet other forms of intelligent life, but the main thing ...
Leaving home to live more fully - this is probably the meaning of human life.
In the future, we will only leave the house more often. At least I really hope so.
